Adobe Illustrator is a vector-based drawing program developed and marketed by Adobe Systems.
The latest version, Illustrator CS4, is the fourteenth generation in the product line. Numerous new features include multiple artboards in a single document, and a "blob brush".
CS4 was released in October 2008.
Illustrator can import many common graphic file formats including:
- EPS
- CorelDRAWTM
- GIF
- JPEG
- PICT
- TIFF
- DXF
- DWG
- Adobe PDF
Using Illustrator you can export multiple artboards to the following formats:
- SWF = flash
- PSD = photoshop
- PNG
- JPEG
- TIFF
Scaling an object enlarges or reduces it horizontally (along the x axis), vertically (along the y axis), or both. Objects scale relative to a reference point which varies depending on the scaling method you choose. You can change the default reference point for most scaling methods, and you can also lock the proportions of an object.
The Texture effects are raster-based and use the document’s raster effects settings whenever you apply the effect to a vector graphic. They are available only for documents in RGB color mode.
- Craquelure
- Grain
- Mosaic Tiles
- Patchwork
- Stained Glass
There is also a Texturizer available which applies a texture you select or create to an image.
